Gratitude, piece by piece

Where do I begin?
I thought this as I stared at the forest of fifty-foot bamboo that stands between me and the growing space I need to expand the farm. In my head came the sound of several different voices telling me I’ll never be able to tame this beautiful but invasive plant. Surely I would have to use loads of herbicide, making the field unusable for lord knows how long.
So, here we go folks. One pole at a time, and with a new playlist of different words in my head. On repeat, the sound of all the voices who have told me I can make this work. To thank all of the owners of those voices, where do I begin?
I’ll just have to start here. One note in your inbox at a time. Thank you, for all of your encouraging words, and the countless other ways you have supported me.

Bulbs and Cover Crops
Fat raindrops are finally pelting the field, and the crimson clover, daikon radish, and fall-planted flowers are soaking it up gratefully. It’s been an extremely dry Autumn so far, and here’s to hoping this rain brings a chill so we can finally wear our long-anticipated sweaters past noon.
The tulips are still piled in their cold storage. If planted too soon, the warm ground may trick them into thinking it’s already Spring. This weather provides the perfect push to get the seed-starting room in order. It’s time for a fresh start, and a bit of organizing before we hunker down for the season.
